FROM THE PASTOR
foundations
Not only buildings have foundations, each person’s life has one too – something or someone in which they line up their decisions, achieve their goals, base their attitudes and actions on, and whatever else regarding this. But what exactly do we build our lives on?
Well, this is a good question. God has made us, and given us life; God also provides us with the foundation, solid and true. We don’t have to find, or search for it, and we are not ignorant when we turn to God’s word, the Bible that clearly proclaims, “…, no-one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ…“ (1 Corinthians 3:11). Now people, even some who call themselves Christian, can build on false, or inferior foundations – it happens all the time. But when it comes to the right foundation, the one that gives a solid footing to life, there is only one, and God has provided; Jesus Christ.
What are you building your life on? The first verse from the hymn (LHS 331), “My Hope Is Built on Nothing Less” (Edward Mote 1797-1874, alt)
My hope is built on nothing less
than Jesus' blood and righteousness;
no merit of my own I claim,
but wholly lean on Jesus' name:
On Christ, the solid rock, I stand;
all other ground is sinking sand.
We Pray For:
† The church, that it may not despair in times of trouble, knowing that death and hell cannot overcome it.
† The ministers of the church, that they may use God’s authority to forgive sins with wisdom and compassion.
† Those who serve the church with their gifts: those who prophesy, those who serve, those who teach, those who encourage, those who give, those who lead, and those who show compassion.
† The workforce, professions, tradespeople, technicians and trade unions.
† The persecuted, the victimised, the exploited, those abused, physically and emotionally, victims of crime, those who are confused or misled.
